My painting goal is to represent the scene in front of me quickly, and with energy.

My landscape paintings are inspired by my interest in nature, concern about climate change, and a desire to illustrate the feeling of a place within the painted image. Two regions that I have painted the most often are the forests and coastlines of New England, and the mountains and meadows of the American west. My deep roots in both of these locations informs my perspective.

I also paint other subjects from life, including interiors and my own still-life items.

Winslow Homer was one of my first favorite painters. And I am interested in Edgar Degas and other impressionist painters, such as James McNeill Whistler and John Singer Sargent.

I work primarily in oil or watercolor paints. I paint outside, from imagination, or from a combination of my own reference photos and sketchbook. I’ve learned how to paint primarily on my own and have pursued occasional online or in-person instruction with more experienced artists.
